The Hopatcong Woman's Club is providing a rare opportunity for a local Hopatcong girl to attend the Girls Career Institute to help explore women's issues and encourage awareness to contemporary problems.
Yearly the Hopatcong Woman's Club sponsors a High School Junior girl to attend Girls Career Institute (GCI). Girls' Career Institute is an annual program held at Douglass College at Rutgers University and sponsored by the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs for high school Junior girls to explore women's issues and encourage awareness to contemporary problems.
It offers a wonderful "mini college experience" on the campus of the Douglass College part of Rutgers University where delegates experience a sample of college life by living in a dorm, eating in a cafeteria, attending interesting talks and workshops. They learn about career choices from volunteer professional speakers and how to network with other delegates from all over the state of New Jersey. any establish lasting friendships with one another.
The dates for 2020 are Monday, June 1st through Thursday, June 4th. If you are a junior girl who is interested in attending GCI please go to the Hopatcong High School Guidance office to obtain an application for this wonderful opportunity. Applications are due before March 1, 2020.
More About Girls Career Institute:
Girls' Career Institute (GCI) offers a "mini college experience" at Douglass Residential College on the campus of Rutgers University. Delegates experience a sample of college life by living in a dorm, eating in a cafeteria, and attending lectures and workshops. They learn about career choices from volunteer professional speakers and how to network with other delegates from all over the state of New Jersey. Many establish lasting friendships with one another.
The cost of attending GCI is underwritten by a local NJSFWC club (Hopatcong Woman’s Club) as the sponsor. Delegates are selected based on their interest in gaining insight into attending college and seeking career options.
While community service and participation in school activities are strongly considered, GCI is not an award for service or scholarship. Local clubs may contact applicants of their own choosing or contact area schools to ask them to submit the names of students for consideration. If working with a school submission of applicants, the club may be involved in the selection of the Delegate and the Alternate by interviewing those applicants or they may leave the selection to the school personnel. In every case the Registration Form for Delegates and Alternates must be sent to the Director by March 1, 2020.
