Donate to the LHF during the #GivingTuesday campaign before December 31, and you can help name the boat and even join a special wine and cheese voyage on the new vessel.

The Lake Hopatcong Foundation (LHF) Floating Classroom is due to be launched May 1, 2018, and will give students the opportunity to explore the lake, learning about freshwater ecology and how to protect our valuable watershed. The LHF plans to host 1,000 fourth grade students on the floating classroom in our first year, and it will be open to the public one day per week in July and August.

Floating ClassroomIt’s Official! Boat Builder Selected – Targeted for May 1, 2018

The Lake Hopatcong Foundation has selected Sightseer Marine to build the vessel for the Lake Hopatcong Floating Classroom.  Delivery of the vessel is anticipated by May 1.  Funding for the boat was provided in part by grants from the USA TODAY Network’s “A Community Thrives” program and the James P. Verhalen Family Foundation.  The custom-built, 40-foot, covered pontoon boat will provide interactive, hands-on experiences to educate students on freshwater ecology and how to help protect our lakes.

Giving TuesdayBy donating to the LHF #GivingTuesday campaign, you can…

1. Help name the vessel

For each $25 donated to the LHF through our #GivingTuesday campaign, donors can suggest a name for the LHF Board of Trustees to consider when choosing a moniker for the new vessel.

2. Take a wine and cheese voyage

Those donating $250 or more will be welcomed aboard the newly launched floating classroom, along with three guests, for a very special excursion to learn about the lake through hands-on experiments while enjoying complimentary wines and cheeses.

3. Double your impact

Last year, the LHF raised more than $4,000 through our #GivingTuesday campaign.  This year, if we exceed $5,000 in donations through our #GivingTuesday campaign, an anonymous donor will match the total amount, up to $10,000!
