Jefferson Township Recreation Department is accepting registrations for Basketball and gym activities offered to special needs children.
The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the 2019-2020 winter season of its successful Challenger Basketball and Gym Activities program for special needs children. Boys and girls age 5 – 18 (or the completion of high school) and young adults 19 to 35 with physical or mental challenges are invited to join this program. Tom DeVries, a resident of Jefferson Township, will manage the league.
The activities will begin in the White Rock Elementary School’s Lower Gym, 2 Francine Place, Milton/Oak Ridge on Saturday, December 14 from 10:30 to 12:30 pm and continue on Saturdays until February 20; however, the program will not meet on December 21 and 28.
Starting on Tuesday, January 7, the program will also run every Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 pm at Cozy Lake School, 205 Cozy Lake Road, Milton/Oak Ridge and continue until February 25.
This program offers players the chance to participate in one of the most popular sports worldwide – basketball. Participants will play with the same equipment and by the same rules as in any basketball game with the exception that they have the option to use the “buddy” system for assistance. Every player on the roster plays in the game, and no score is kept. Thanks to fundraising efforts by the Challenger League’s parent group led by Scott Luker, the normal registration fee for this program will be waived for the 7th consecutive
