- General info
The New Hope Food pantry has been serving the needs of families in the Jefferson area for more nearly 20 years. The number of families using the food pantry ranges from 50-70. Most of the families are adults but we have about 25% of our patrons with children under the age of 17.
We distribute food to families twice per month as well as meet in between to take care of emergency needs. We recently changed our distribution process to allow patrons to shop and fill their own bags; this has resulted in more efficient use of donations, better meeting the individual family needs and eliminating waste by no longer providing unwanted items. In addition to regular food distribution, we also provide Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday baskets. This year we started a summer basket program and thanks to donations we have been able to provide some basic school supplies in August.
The food pantry is blessed to have many volunteer supporters that provide food donations, bagging support and distribution day help. In addition to MUMC members who are active in supporting the food pantry, we get a lot of help from the local boy and girl scout troops as well as our local schools. We are also blessed to be given monetary donations by individual contributors as well as organizations.
Helping is as Easy as 1-2-3:
- Drop off non-perishable food at the Oak Ridge Post Office or Milton United Method Church (red bin outside the back door). Non-perishable needs: coffee, canned goods, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, toiletries.
- Run a food drive in your neighborhood to support the Food pantry (your neighbors will be glad to help).
- Donate money to the food pantry; you can do this via Pay Pal on our website: www.miltonumc.net and click on “New Hope Food Pantry” or drop loose change in the coin jar located at the New Hope Thrift Shop or AJ’s Country Cone. You can also donate in memory of or in honor of a loved one (a gift card is available).
